Ubersoca Cruise Is Now The Largest Themed Cruise At Sea

soca cruise

After being flown to Puerto Rico – along with my sister who I asked to also be invited – I knew the event was going to be one of the best adventures ever. But, the fact that this was a Soca cruise was definitely a game-changer. I had no idea those existed and being Vincy-American, I was ready to witness one for myself. It truly shows the power of SOCA when we come together as family. We attribute our success to the collective talent and power of our entertainers and their loyalty to the brand and vision.

Other Events and After Parties

The team had locked in bigger ships to allow even more people to take part in the Ubersoca experience. They were also set to sail for 5-days versus the normal 4 to two exotic locations. If you think this experience is only about partying into the wee hours of the night, you are mistaken. A large component of the programming is also the networking and conference offerings that take place.

OPENING NIGHT Toga Party

It’s humbling to see Soca music (which is scarcely recognized as its own genre), manifest its unrivalled energy and become the biggest theme cruise in the world, bigger than EDM, Reggae, Hip-Hop. This time, I decided to do the 2 hour dune buggy ride, organized by Chukka Tours. Though it was a nice opportunity to get out and see a little bit of Grand Turk, it was a subpar experience and I should have caught up on sleep instead. Next year, I will reconsider whether I want to do anything during the morning of J’ouvert.

St. Lucia Carnival 2019: A Review of Xuvo Carnival

Known for it’s gorgeous beaches, would class recreational activities, fine dining, resorts, casinos and golf courses, St Croix provides the perfect landscape for our Jouvert / Beach Party. Guests also sampled well-known delicacies, including pigtail bouillon, green fig and saltfish, fish broth, veggie soup, creole bread, and coconut cake. The cruise, with a capacity of over 3000 passengers, departed San Juan on April 9 and will make stops in St. Maarten, Saint Lucia, at St. Thomas.

The themes were announced approximately two months before sailing, which helped in outfit shopping. However, the full schedule was sent out only days before sail. As a proud millennial, I am (kind of) addicted to my phone, so I knew I was going to get wi-fi. I also made more of an effort to have dinner in the main Dining Room. Though the waiter service was at times long, it was honestly a calming time for me because it allowed a little more reprieve from the noise and large crowds of people. The food there was tasty - over the trip, I had lamb chops, sirloin, salmon, seafood and delicious desserts.

If you chose not to go, you were able to receive your money back (less $50 for administrative fees) within 2 days of official launch if you sent a written request to Ubersoca Cruise. Roberts even stated, “I know my songs are great contributions when it gives me a specific feeling. It’s really a feeling that I cannot explain,” while adding that Soca legends like “Machel Montano, Alison Hinds and Destra” inspired her to jump into the lane. 3500 revelers departed Point Seraphine and took to the John Compton Highway to the sweet sounds of Soca music, played by some of the island’s top deejays along the carnival route.

I liked the twist to the standard all-white party with the toga infusion and most people dressed accordingly with gladiator sandals/slippers, leaf headbands, and gold embellishments. Staying in an interior cabin will have you falling into the deepest REM sleep imaginable. I almost missed this party but luckily my internal clock woke me up, despite not hearing my alarm. There were several places to eat on the ship, the most popular of which was at the Windjammer, aka the cafeteria. It has been two weeks since I returned and I have been able to sift through videos and pictures and process the trip.

J’ouvert is like a happiness elixir, as well as the most exhausting feat. This may have been one of my favorite, if not the best, j’ouverts I have experienced. It’s not the same as chipping behind a truck but the energy of the sea of people was remarkable. Ubersoca Cruise prides itself on being the largest Soca music festival at sea, and they have lived up to this reputation. Soca music has been around for years – since 1970 to be exact – and it’s here to stay.

A REVIEW OF UBERSOCA CRUISE 2019

I was loving the music, dancing and taking Henny to the head while enjoying the performances up close. Kes, Lavaman, Shal Marshall, Asa Bantan and Lil Natty and Thunda performed and it was lit. However, I would have liked more DJs and fewer performers.

Year after year, it only gets bigger and continues to do its job of making more people who hear it feel like they’re on Cloud 9. Fast forward 4 years later, USC has gone from the smallest cruise ship charter to being the biggest, hypest and best cruise ship charter on the Ocean. Keevo (Trinidad & Tobago), White Yardie (UK/Jamaica) and Trixx (Canada/Ghana) provided the funny entertainment of the night, and absolutely came with the jokes. I had seen Trixx last year and he was even more hilarious this year. It was great seeing Keevo do stand up because I was only familiar with the 30 second Instagram jokes and sometimes it doesn’t quite translate. Similarly, White Yardie held his own on the stage and got the biggest laughs from me.

I decided to do the first seating this year because I wanted a different experience from last year, and because I knew I would have an easier time napping before the next event. Unfortunately, the event was moved indoors to the Promenade, which naturally led to a spillover into the Star Lounge. I had a good time, but was feeling a bit stifled in my outfit in the close quarters.

The interior cabins are pretty small at only 160 square feet inclusive of the bathroom with no outside light to indicate whether it is night or day. The boarding process, though, at Orlando was not as seamless as my experience in the Miami port. The initial line to go through the first passport and security check was extremely long. There weren’t enough cruise attendants to handle the flow of people.

Despite the initial hesitation, Turner, Reece, and Lewis put their respective talents together to launch The Ubersoca Cruise in 2015. Turner pitched the idea to his friend Daniel Reece, a well-known promoter in Bermuda and together they approached Jodi Lewis, to help them bring it all together. I stopped by these tournaments very briefly and they were a great change of pace from the parties. I just want to know if there are any prizes at play for these competitions.

And I believe most people followed the theme very respectfully. I was at the main Battle Royale event for a very short time - instead I decided to skip the performance-heavy night and rest instead, so that I could fully enjoy the Small Island Party. I stayed in an Interior stateroom with a female roommate I did not know. It was a decent experience, but I do not think I would want to do either (interior; rooming blind) again.

Planning ahead is a great way to score big savings, as Royal Caribbean often runs early saver deals to guests booking well in advance. It’s also pretty safe to assume prices usually go up as availability goes down the closer you get to your sail date, so booking ahead is a surefire way to lock in a great rate. That said, booking a cruise at the last minute can also yield some unexpected savings — but only if the itinerary you’re interested in hasn’t sold out yet. Why It Costs $1 Million Per Day To Run One Of The World’s Biggest Cruise Ships

The crew decks have no windows so it was incredibly isolating for cruise employees in particular. While everyone was stuck on the ship, the crew was below deck, not even knowing what time of day it was unless they were looking at a clock. It's revealed that at least a third of the crew members who tested positive for COVID-19 by around the Feb. 9 mark didn't have any symptoms. Dede, a dishwasher who was particularly excited about being able to work on a cruise ship, highlights that there was no separation between crew members that were infected and those who weren't. The crew was also scared to report that they were sick or even to complain about the conditions. Initial screening by the Japanese Ministry of Health found that 10 people had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Power of a Disney Wish: Megan’s Story

Sisters Eva and Carolina Villanueva climb aboard the Barbara de Braganza liner as it voyages from Spain to Brazil. Unbeknownst to the other passengers and crew, they’ve smuggled a mysterious woman onboard after she pleaded for their help. Right off the bat, she starts off with a mega-cruise ship called the MSC Divina through the Caribbean, where over 4000 passengers make the most of their holidays on the ship and at the port. Each season of Below Deck follows the young crew of a superyacht during the ever-busy charter season, chronicling their lives both working and living aboard the vessel. A total of 712 people contracted COVID-19 on the Diamond Princess cruise ship and 14 died.

And the cruise ships were just following the example of the lack of a coherent response. NBC’s The Voyager with Josh Garcia also follows the travelogue format through the eyes of traveler and host, Josh Garcia. However, instead of focusing solely on the experience with cruise ships, The Voyager provides a wider perspective of the world as a whole. ITV’s The Cruise takes us from the yacht setting of the previous shows to an actual cruise ship, though this series does primarily follow the ship’s crew as well.

Throughout its six seasons, Jane travels the world one cruise ship at a time, truly living the best life. "I spent months collecting hundreds of hours of cell phone footage taken by the passengers and crew aboard the Diamond Princess," Olson tells PEOPLE. "I wanted this to be an immersive experience, meant to transport the viewer back into the particular feeling of the early days of this pandemic." HBO's latest documentary takes on the nightmare aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. We meet four men, college students, who got a great deal on tickets for the Diamond Princess, a 15-day excursion through South Asia that included multiple stops and a Chinese New Year celebration.

Emmy Award-winning director Nick Quested explains how he recreated the two-week nightmare on the Diamond Princess using never-before-seen footage shot by passengers, first-hand accounts and news reports. The documentary also examines what went wrong and raises questions about the management of the cruising industry and corporate accountability at large. Peacock documentary Hell of a Cruise puts us on board cruise ships in early 2020, which – well, you’ve no doubt assumed it wasn’t a relaxing vacation-type atmosphere, and you’d be right AND wrong. The film chronicles how the ships became floating petri dishes for Covid-19, and asserts that the Carnival Corporation, which kept its cruises going despite surely knowing better, is partly to blame for the virus’ global spread. Everyone wants to know what happens on these huge, extravagant, cruise ships and Mighty Cruise Ships definitely lets us witness the lavish life without having to pay the thousands of dollars that come with a cruise ship ticket. One difference is that yachts are privately owned and directly chartered while cruise ships are owned by corporations. Aired on Discovery Channel in Canada in 2014, 2017, and 2019, this documentary is divided into episodes, each focusing on a single cruise ship in minute detail. With superb behind-the-scenes footage, Mighty Cruise Ships features such ships as the Celebrity Solstice, Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, and many more. A 2008 Sundance Official Selection documentary, this film is set onboard a riverboat cruise ship sailing the Yangtze River in Hubei, China before the construction of the Three Gorges Dam.

The documentary, shot by several camerapeople stationed in different parts of the city, shows exactly what it looks like when one of the cruise liners arrives. The scale is striking—the ship looks more like a geographic feature than a mode of transportation. There is no narration, and, despite the controversy that surrounds the ships, the film itself makes no argument. About halfway through "Hell of a Cruise," a new documentary streaming on Peacock, a traveler films herself on a Costa Luminosa cruise just as COVID-19 was beginning to spread around the world – and passengers can be heard coughing in the background. This true-crime documentary series tells the stories of people who got on a cruise expecting to have the vacation of a lifetime – only to never return or be heard from again. Princess Cruises FAQ

are there irons on cruise ships

If you forget your curling irons or they don’t work for whatever reason, there are plenty of other ways you can curl your hair, so don’t despair. You could try purchasing curling irons on board the ship’s shops, although we’ve never seen them for sale as of yet. My favorite way to iron clothes without iron is to have a hot shower and then hang any clothes that need ‘ironing’ in the bathroom. It isn’t as good as using an iron but it’s definitely better than not doing anything. The laundry on an MSC Cruises cruise costs around €7.50 to wash and iron a jacket, trousers cost €5.90, a t-shirt €2.90, shorts €3.50, underwear €1.90, and a dress €9.00. Each cruise line has its own set of policies and restrictions when it comes to bringing irons on board.

Why Ironing on a Cruise Ship is Different

Celebrity Cruises specifically mention you can bring curling irons in their list of prohibited items. All the main cruise lines allow you to take curling irons on board. I’m fairly sure if curling irons were banned, the cruise lines would lose some customers to land-based vacations. They are a cruise essential item for many passengers who like to look their curly best.

Can You Bring a Travel Iron on a Cruise Ship?

Proper setup of the ironing station is the first step towards ensuring a smooth ironing experience. Upon entering the ironing room, identify a free ironing board and iron. It’s also wise to inquire about peak times so you can plan your ironing during quieter periods. Most passengers will want to iron their formal attire right before dinner or special events, leading to longer wait times.

Tips for Packing Wrinkle-Free Clothes

Room service is available from 5 am to midnight (subject to convenience charge), and all stateroom-to-stateroom calls are free. Other prohibited items include coffee makes, standard extension cords, weapons, and illegal drugs, such as marijuana. Plenty of other people on the ship will have wrinkled clothes too, and the ones that pay a lot of money to have their clothes pressed will be in the minority. If you choose to pay for pressing, pay for formal night clothes so you could reuse the formal night clothes. For men, ask your dry cleaner at home to pack dress shirts with tissue paper to help fight wrinkles.

Can You Bring a Hair Dryer on a Cruise? (& Do You Even Need One?)

While an iron isn't likely to get you kicked off, you should not be surprised if your luggage arrives and there's a note stating that it was confiscated for the duration of the sailing. Holland America Line is a bit picky with which ships have self-service laundry onboard. You won't find these facilities onboard the majority of their ships; however, if you find yourself sailing onboard Veendam or Amsterdam, you can take advantage of their laundry rooms. When you disembark your ship on the final morning of the sailing, look for a table with all the confiscated items somewhere in the cruise terminal.

Princess Cruises have self serve laundrettes available on their cruise ships. Irons and ironing boards are free to use within the laundry rooms, available on several passenger decks. Holland America has self service laundry facilities available on certain ships (mostly older).

By packing essential ironing supplies such as a travel-friendly iron, wrinkle-release spray, and portable steamer, you’ll be well-equipped to handle any wrinkled garments. Some cruise ships have small laundromats on certain decks where you can use washing and drying machines, as well as an iron and ironing board. Unfortunately, not all major cruise lines have self serve laundry options available.

The good news is that most cruise ships have 110-volt outlets in the staterooms, which are the same voltage as what is used in the United States. If you are taking a cruise with MSC you may be wondering if they have laundry services onboard. I’ve cruised with MSC 3 times and have used a range of laundry options onboard. Cabins on Princess cruise ships are not equipped with irons, however irons are available for use in each ship's self-serve laundry rooms. Passengers can also pay to have individual items pressed by the ship's crew. Self-Service LaunderettesSelf-service launderettes are located on staterooms decks.

Does Royal Caribbean have irons? How laundry works on a cruise ship

Cruise ship policies on bringing irons stem from a number of reasons, with safety being paramount. The close-quarters nature of a cruise ship means that the risk of fire spreading quickly is higher compared to a normal hotel or home environment. Irons pose a fire hazard due to their high heat and the potential for them to be left unattended, accidentally causing a fire. Cruise ship companies prioritize the safety and well-being of their passengers and crew, and thus have implemented policies to minimize potential risks.

However, you should make sure to bring an iron board if you plan on doing a lot of ironing. First, irons are only available in the cabins of the newer Carnival ships. If you’re sailing on an older ship, you won’t have access to an iron. She had to go out of her way on disembarkation day to pick it up before heading to the airport. Cruise fans have devised a method for dealing with wrinkles without resorting to laundry services.

Soft suitcases squash the clothes inside them, causing pressure creases and wrinkles. However, people often must take a flight to their cruise’s departing destination. If this is the case for you, you must keep this in mind when packing. Planes are unforgiving when it comes to luggage, so pack wisely. All you need to do is dampen and flatten the wrinkle with a cloth and blow it dry with a hairdryer on the coolest setting. Upon arriving at your stateroom, you should unpack your clothing and get your garments on hangers as soon as possible.

are there irons on cruise ships

Even though you are largely prohibited from packing your travel iron, you don’t have to resign yourself to a vacation filled with wrinkled clothes. Depending on the cruise line, you will have several options available. Some cruise lines provide self-service laundry facilities, which, in addition to a laundry room with washers and dryers, will contain irons and ironing boards for passenger use.

Cunard cruise ships have small laundromats on board where guests can use the washing machines, dryers as well as irons and ironing boards free of charge. Since they are a fire hazard, cruise ships do not provide irons or ironing boards in passenger cabins. However, depending on the cruise line, you may have a small self serve laundromat available to use onboard or be able to request to borrow an iron and ironing board from housekeeping. While some cruise lines strictly prohibit passengers from bringing irons on board, others may have designated ironing areas or provide laundry facilities for guests to use. It’s important to familiarize yourself with the specific policies of your cruise line before packing your iron.

Determining "how much do you tip cruise staff" refers to the monetary gratuity given to individuals providing services aboard a cruise ship. Like tipping at restaurants, acknowledging cruise staff for their hospitality ensures their efforts are appreciated.
